Taoiseach receives accusations of fomenting the creation of a so-called ‘golden circle’ by allowing pay hikes for ‘special’ Government advisors

Money goes round and round at the top, but does not filter down to other echelons of society, it seems.

It has emerged today that a ‘golden circle’ and a ‘culture of privilege’ exists within the corridors of power, while the rest of us see life from a different perspective.

Several ministers successfully lobbied Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin to grant higher salaries for their special advisors.

The blame for enabling and allowing this to happen has been landed squarely at the Taoiseach’s feet.

Speaking in the Dail, Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams asked Mr. Kenny how could he condone cuts to payments for lone parents while some special advisors are getting pay hikes.

Mr. Adams said “there is no austerity for your Government. You have created a culture of privilege, a golden circle that rivals the old Fianna Fail one, and, meanwhile, you impose cuts on frontline staff and destroy public services,” Mr Adams said.

Mr. Kenny said that some of the pay claims for special advisers were not granted by Minister Howlin, and those that were allowed were ‘based on experience.’
