Taoiseach says Lisa Smith would be investigated if she returns to Ireland

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that an investigation would take place if Lisa Smith were to return to Ireland.

According to RTÉ News, the Taoiseach said that an investigation would have to take place in order to determine her activities.

Although the Taoiseach did admit that the case is a difficult case, he did reiterated that the Irish Government would assist Ms Smith and her daughter given that there is an innocent child involved.

He added that Ms Smith has requested consular assistance, but the Government has its concerns about sending its diplomatic staff to the region.

The Taoiseach’s comments comes as Ms Smith and her young daughter are currently being detained at a Syrian refugee camp.
