Taoiseach states that Pope Francis must follow up his words on tackling child sex abuse with the appropriate action

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has urged Pope Francis to follow up his recent words on child sex abuse within the Catholic Church, with actions that will put an end to cover ups once for all.

Speaking to TV3 News, the Taoiseach who is looking forward to the Pope’s visit this weekend said the church must follow up with the appropriate action and report case to child protection authorities.

Mr Varadkar who said that although support for the Pope’s visit is extremely high amongst the Irish public, the Catholic Church must realise that a new approach is needed to tackle and put an end to cover ups within the church.

The Taoiseach who revealed that he is looking forward to meeting the pontiff also revealed that he will tell the Pope that many people from the LGBT Community feel excluded from the church despite their strong religious beliefs.
