Terror level remains very high after German tourist killed near Eiffel Tower

French prosecutors have launched a “terrorist plot” investigation after a tourist was stabbed and two others injured in central Paris yesterday by a person before him being arrested, reports RTE.

The attack took place near the Eiffel Tower at around 9pm local time (8pm Irish time) last night, as France remained on the highest alert level over the fighting between Israel and Hamas.

Terrorism prosecutors told AFP they were investigating the knife and hammer attacker, identified as Armand Rajabpour-Miandoab, a French national born in 1997 to Iranian parents, reports RTE.

The man arrested at the scene is “in connection with a terrorist plot” on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

A 23-year-old man, identified by judicial sources as a German-Filipino national was killed in the attack, although a taxi driver intervened to keep the attacker away from his wife, reports RTE.
