Tens of thousands flooded the streets of Dublin today to once again defy the Government’s stance on water charges.
Under glorious sunshine, several passionate speeches were delivered.
Sinn Fein’s MEP Lynn Boylan prophetically said that ‘the Government’s day of reckoning is coming.’
Bernie Hughes, who was jailed for 28 days for her role in a water meter protest, also addressed the gathering, saying that “We must have unity in this campaign as we move forward. If the political parties want change they need to listen to the people and stop ignoring us”.
And in his trademark colourful style, Richard Boyd Barrett dubbed the Taoiseach a “clown” and a “scab of Europe. These epithets were received with rapturous applause.
Further protests are expected in the near future.
One thing is clear; the people of Ireland will not back down until the water charges are gone for good.
