The number of foreign visters is up 8.5% on last year, CSO claims




According to recent statistics, there was a rise in the number of international visitors visiting Ireland in May, with almost 622,300 tourists arriving—a rise of 8.5% over the previous year, reports Breaking News.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) reports that, at 34.9%, the majority of visitors were from the United States, followed by Germany (7.4%) and Britain (20.2%).

A total of 4,462,100 nights were spent in the nation by the tourists, a decrease of 0.3% from May 2023, reports Breaking News.

45.1% of tourists stated that their primary reason for visiting Ireland was for vacation or pleasure.

The overall amount spent by tourists on their travels was €810.6 million, a 29% increase from May 2023.

Gregg Patrick, a statistician in the CSO tourism and travel division, said: “The results show that 622,300 foreign visitors departed Ireland on oversea routes in May 2024, an increase of 8.5 per cent compared with May 2023. Some 34.9 per cent of the visitors were from Great Britain, 20.2 per cent were from the United States, and 7.4 per cent were from Germany. Typically, their visit lasted 7.2 nights,” reports Breaking News.
