“The people should decide when there’s an Election” – Mixed reactions to Varadkar saying there’ll be no General Election any time soon

Many, many people want Leo Varadkar and Micheal Martin to be out the door once and for all, but for that to happen there has to be a General Election.

When that happens, well, that’s anyone’s guess at this stage. The Tanaiste received much backlash for declaring that there’ll be absolutely no general election any time soon.

Some people have been saying that his comments sounds more like a dictatorship than the second in command to the Office of Taoiseach.

The government still has a majority in the Dáil and Seanad, the Tánaiste told the Dáil.

Leo Varadkar said the opposition “can rest assured” that the government still has a majority in the Dáil and a “substantial majority” in the Seanad.

“need not fear an election any time soon,” he added.

Reports reports that the Tánaiste replied to Mick Barry of Solidarity-PBP, who said: “if the mood of discontent hardens among working people, that [Green] deputies Hourigan and Costello might be the least of your worries come the autumn”.
