A Ukrainian volunteer has urged the West to get more weapons as it prepares to meet the Russian attack with a rifle and Molotov cocktails.
Andrii Shelestov, 33, has traded his comfortable life as a software engineer for long shifts in a fortified position as the capital is under heavy bombardment.
His life in the heart of Europe included visits to art galleries and museums in London before his world changed overnight when Vladimir Putin launched the invasion 12 days ago.
Andrii volunteered for the Territorial Defence Force the same day, telling Vice News outside the recruiting station that he wanted to oppose what he described as Russia’s historically entrenched attempt to “enslave” his homeland.
He says that the West need to arm the Ukraine because they have no weapons and need jet fighter planes in order to try and fend off the Russian army’s advances.
Ukraine’s former President has been on the frontline since the start of the conflict and has vowed to fight on regardless of what happens over the coming days and weeks.
