There’s now approximately 195,000 people waiting to get a new passport

Close to 200,000 Irish people are waiting to to get their passport application processed.

Latest figures show that 195,000 people are trying to get a new passport so they can travel abroad.

Alongside that, it’s been reported that a number of people working at the passport office have been suspended over alleged ‘back handers’ to fast track certain applications.

The incidents reportedly involve staff working at two different offices.

The Irish passport service is currently under the spotlight due to ongoing delays that have led to people being forced to cancel holidays
