An inquest has concluded that no police officer will be held criminally responsible for the death of a Dublin man who suffered a heart attack while being restrained by officers last year, reports Breaking News.
Ronan Lawless (35), of Tara Court, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin, died at Beaumont Hospital on November 23, 2022, almost a week after being admitted to hospital after police were called to his home.
At a hearing at Dublin County Coroner’s Court, Inspector Liam Hickey of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) heard from Inspector Liam Hickey that it was unlikely any criminal charges would be brought in relation to Mr Lawless’ death, reports Breaking News.
“No criminal proceedings are being contemplated, but we are continuing our investigation,” said Insp Hickey, reports Breaking News.
However, he stressed that the ongoing nature of the Gsoc investigation was not intended to indicate “any misconduct by a garda,” reports Breaking News.
