“They’re a disgrace” – RTE slammed over its coverage of Ireland’s women’s football team singing “ooh ah up the Ra” in dressing room

RTE have been slammed by social media users over their coverage of Ireland’s women’s football team singing “ooh ah up the ra” song that appear to be blown out of all proportion.

Social media users said that the national broadcaster should be absolutely ashamed of itself after continuous questioning of why the team sang it, what the purpose of it was and what sort of punishment, if any, will they face.

Meanwhile, UEFA have announced that they’ve launched a major investigation into just what happened in the Irish women’s football team’s dressing room when they say “ooh ah up the Ra” in a video that went viral.

Along with that, they say that they’re going to investigate whether the song would be deemed as inappropriate behaviour and that they’ll be releasing their findings in the coming days.

With that in mind, Ireland’s Chloe Mustaki was interviewed on Sky Sports about Ireland’s women’s first ever qualification to the World Cup, but the interview was predominantly about the IRA reference in one of their sing-songs post match.

Sky Sports suggested that perhaps the Irish team needed an education, presumably about The Troubles. Watch the full interview below.

The FAI and Ireland’s women’s football team manager have been forced to issue an apology after the women sang “Ooh ah up the Ra” in the dressing  room after beating Scotland last night 1-0.

“The Football Association of Ireland and the Republic of Ireland Ireland Women’s National Team Manager Vera Pauw apologise for any offence caused by a song sung by players in the Ireland dressing room after the FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Play-off win over Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday night,” reads the FAI statement, reports RTE.

Ireland manager Vera Pauw said: “We apologise from the bottom of our hearts to anyone who has been offended by the content of the post-match celebrations after we had just qualified for the World Cup.

“We will review this with the players and remind them of their responsibilities in this regard. I have spoken with players this morning and we are sorry collectively for any hurt caused, there can be no excuse for this “.
