
According to various reports in the Spanish media it is believed that a group of holidaymakers had been forced to flee the sea off the coast of the popular resort Benidorm after a reported ‘shark alert’.
It is understood that amass panic set in across the beach after a 10-year-old boy was reportedly attacked by a fish believed to have been a shark. Police in the popular tourist resort say the young boy was attacked by the creature whilst he was swimming on Poniente Beach near the Costa Blanca Resort. The reported attack prompted the local police to officially close the beach so that they could conduct a search for the fish after holidaymakers were forced to flee the water.
The young boy who has not been named reportedly described the incident to police officers, saying the ‘grey-green’ fish, understood to be 60cm long, bit him after he attempted to touch it whilst he was swimming underwater. Thankfully the young boy was not seriously injured by the attack although the fish left a large circular mark just above his waist, a police spokesperson said. The reported attack has now many locals believing the fish may have been a barracuda.
