A total of five people have tragically lost their lives over the bank holiday weekend.
Yesterday, a truck driver died when his articulated truck jackknifed on the M1 near Drogheda outside Julianstown blocking the roads for hours and miles of tailbacks – a minor detail when the gentleman lost his life.
Sadly, the driver of the lorry was pronounced dead at the scene.
Early yesterday morning, a man in his 40s was killed when he was struck by a car in Co Wicklow.
A 20-yr-old died in a crash in Co Mayo while another man in his 40s lost his life following a crash in Athlone.
And just as the weekend got underway, a member of Cavan fooball team sadly died in a crash on Friday.
