Authorities in the US have sadly confirmed that a mother and a baby have sadly died during Hurricane Florence.
In an announcement made this evening, police in Wilmington North Carolina, confirmed that the mother and baby were killed after a tree fell through their home.
They also say a man who was in the house at the time of the incident was rushed to hospital with unspecified injuries.
The tragic deaths come as the powerful hurricane smashed the US coast on Thursday.
It is expected the hurricane will last a number of days with winds in the region of 140kph expected along with severe flooding.
