Wildfires continue to rage in Greece, just east of the country’s capital and on Tuesday the authorities announced that at least 74 people had been killed as a result of the fires, RTE reports.
Greece is currently mired in a desperate heatwave and the government has declared a state of emergency and declared 3 days of mourning. Athens has also appealed to the EU for aid in battling the out of control blaze, Sky News reported on Tuesday.
It has also been revealed that rescuers searching for survivors in the seaside resort of Mati, that was destroyed when the wild fire swept through, found 26 bodies “huddled together”.
