Travel chaos for holiday-makers as Aer Lingus cancels another 120 plus flights as pilots’ industrial action continues

More than two hundred and twenty-two flights that were scheduled for next week have been cancelled by Aer Lingus owing to continued industrial action by pilots over wages, reports Breaking News.

The airline stated on Friday afternoon that flights from Wednesday, July 3rd, to Sunday, July 7th, will be affected by the most recent cancellations.

In order to “enable us to protect as many services as possible for as many of our customers as possible,” Aer Lingus stated that the cancellations were required.

The most recent notification follows the cancellation of more than 200 flights this week due to a lack of agreement between Aer Lingus and the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association over how to prevent strike action, reports Breaking News.

The 24% salary raise that pilots are requesting, according to them, would be equivalent to inflation since the last pay hike in 2019. Pay rises of 12.25 percent or more, according to Aer Lingus, are possible provided “improvements in productivity and flexibility” are talked about, reports Breaking News.

Pilots with Aer Lingus began a work-to-rule on Wednesday, refusing to work extra. On Saturday, they will go on an eight-hour strike.

In order to avoid the strike period, other flights were also rescheduled.

Customers affected by the most recent cancellations, according to Aer Lingus, will have the option of changing their flights for free or cancelling their reservation to get a refund or voucher, reports Breaking News.
