Bruno Ganz, the Swiss actor who was best known for his outstanding performance as Adolf Hitler’s in 2004’s Downfall, has passed away aged 71.
Ganz, who had been acting in German-speaking films and theater productions for almost 50s years, only became a familiar name for audiences elsewhere due to his dramatic portrayal of Hitler’s last days of life inside the Bunker. Downfall was nominated for the Best Foreign Film Academy Award in 2004, which it lost to Alejandro Amenabar’s Mar Adentro.
The actor passed away peacefully due to complications from cancer.
