Two people have been arrested as part of an investigation into a serious assault in Co Tipperary over the weekend, in which a woman in her 20s was left critically injured.
Scarlett Faulkner was attacked on the R494 at Birdhill near the M7 motorway at around 5.30pm on Saturday, 21 March, reports RTE.
She sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick before later being transferred to Cork University Hospital.
Ms Faulkner, a 29-year-old member of the Traveller community, had been travelling in a car along the R494, the route linking Birdhill with the M7 between Limerick and Nenagh, when it is understood the vehicle was deliberately forced off the road, reports RTE.
She was then dragged from the car and assaulted by two individuals who were reportedly armed with weapons.
Several other individuals were present at the scene during the incident, reports RTE.
The attack took place on a busy stretch of road serving Birdhill, Ballina, Killaloe and southeast Clare.
In a statement, Gardaà said they are aware of video footage of the incident circulating online and have urged people not to share it on social media or messaging platforms, instead asking that it be forwarded to Nenagh Garda Station, reports RTE.
Gardaà have also renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward.
They are seeking information on the movements of two vehicles—a grey 162 Ford Transit and a blue 161 Volkswagen Touran—which were travelling together or driving dangerously in and around Birdhill village and the townlands of Cooleen, Crag Cross, Shower Cross, Kylebeg, Annaholty and Thornhill in Co Tipperary between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Saturday, reports RTE.
Road users who were on the R494 between Birdhill and the M7 motorway between 5pm and 6pm and who may have camera or dash-cam footage are asked to provide it to gardaÃ.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station on 067 50450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station, reports RTE.
