UK: Four people killed as tipper truck collides with vehicles and pedestrians

Police in the UK have confirmed that four people have sadly died and several others were injured when a tipper truck collided with vehicles and pedestrians on a hill.

It is understood that the incident happened yesterday evening in Lansdown Lane in Upper Weston in Bath, Somerset, England. Police say that the tipper truck carrying aggregate collided with numerous of vehicles and two pedestrians as it travelled down the hill.According to various witnesses it is believed that the driver was frantically trying to avert an accident.

A spokesman for Somerset police said: “Four people have died at the scene and there are several people injured,” the force spokesman said. “Casualties are being taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath and Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

Meanwhile a spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust also released a statement in which she said:`We can confirm that we have taken one patient by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.“Three patients have been taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath. She went onto say: “There were two air ambulances at the scene, five ambulances, three paramedics in rapid response vehicles and a BASICS doctor.”
