The explosion on the Kerch Strait bridge in Crimea deals a double whammy of psychological and military effects.
The bridge was a personal vanity project for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered its construction after Russia illegally annexed Crimea in 2014. He personally inaugurated the bridge by leading a convoy over it. Mr. Putin was so in love with his bridge that he even ordered the filming of a propaganda-laden rom-com written by Margarita Simonyan, the head of Russia’s main international propaganda TV channel RT.
The attack occurred one day after Mr. Putin’s birthday, with many Ukrainian sources now rubbing the partial destruction of the bridge on Mr. Putin’s bloated face.
