Ukrainian refugees will be allowed to exchange their existing driving licences for Irish ones, with no test or questions of any kind.
Irish citizens usually must undergo testing and take lessons before they’re granted a licence, so it’s unclear why the privilege of a straight exchange is being granted to refugees.
This is the latest idea by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan, who appears to only engage in easy and politically favorable initiatives. He was nowhere to be seen when truckers descended into Dublin to protest against soaring fuel prices, for example, choosing to take a ‘not my problem’ approach to that one.
