U.S. woman fails in her bid to sue her 12 year old nephew after she sustained injuries in a ‘Forceful hug’

A woman in the US has failed in her bid to sue 12-year-old boy understood to be her nephew for injuries she claims she suffered from an over exuberant hug he gave her at a birthday party.

The woman named Jennifer Connell, from New York City, claimed her nephew Sean Talara caused her injuries when he leaped into her arms at his 8th birthday party back in 2011. Ms Connell then decided to sue her young nephew for $127,000 in damages at a Superior Court in the town of Bridgeport, Connecticut. However she was unsuccessful as a six-person jury unanimously ruled in favour of her nephew. Ms Connell aged 54 claimed that the boy’s “forceful greeting” caused her to fall to the ground and break her wrist. Ms Connell testified that undeniably loves her nephew but thought he should be held accountable for his actions.

According to a report issued in the Connecticut Post, Ms Connell testified that Sean had shouted “I love you” as he jumped on her.” “All of a sudden he was there in the air, I had to catch him and we tumbled onto the ground.” “I remember him shouting, ‘Auntie Jen I love you,’ and there he was flying at me.” Ms Connell told the court her injuries, were so severe, that she had trouble at a recent social gathering. “I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate.”
