The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that refugees are welcome in Ireland and that recent scenes on social media are not acceptable and that it’s not the Irish way.

Meanwhile, 5,000 refugees who arrived in Ireland last year had either false travel documents or none at all,

Figures obtained by Newstalk reveal that some 5,000 refugees who arrived into Ireland last year had either false travel documents to try and gain entry into the country, or had no documents whatsoever – all were allowed to stay.

In response to the truly outrageous discovery, the government’s Joe O’Brien says people are fleeing situations of torture or trafficking.

The Minister for State and Integration said that these cases where travel documents are not what we might want them to be.

These are people in desperate situations and desperate measures are often taken and we need to respect that.
