Varadkar says Jack Chambers ‘could be Ireland’s next gay Taoiseach in waiting’

Leo Varadkar, the former Taoiseach, has paid respects to his constituency colleague Jack Chambers, who will take over as Minister of Finance.

“He seems capable of handling the work. He has demonstrated his great ability. By the way, I don’t believe 33 is too young,” he said on the Today with Claire Byrne programme on RTÉ radio, reports Breaking News.

“He is obviously a part of the LGBT community, and this is Pride week, which is one really lovely thing about him, in my opinion. And perhaps he is the homosexual Taoiseach of the future in waiting,” reports Breaking News.

Mr. Varadkar emphasised that Mr. Chambers was not just a skilled physician and lawyer but also a highly competent politician.

“I’ve known Jack for a long time now. Certainly since he got elected to the council. He’s a good colleague. We’re lucky in Dublin West that TDS and senators tend to work together on local issues rather than scoring points off each other. And I don’t think we’ve ever had had a row or had a harsh word,” he said, reports Breaking News.
