
In County Mayo, a woman in her 70s lost her life after being hit by a truck, reports RTE. The sad event occurred in the Westport grocery parking lot.
A short while later, the pedestrian woman was declared dead at the site, reports RTE.
Forensic investigators preserved and inspected the site.
“In recent months, we have had a number of very worrying incidents and level crossings and we would appeal to all road users to obey the rules of the roads at level crossings. They are for everyone’s safety,” Iarnród Éireann CEO Jim Meaden said, reports RTE.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted and the local coroner has been alerted.
The Gardaà are currently urging potential witnesses to come forward, reports RTE.
