A Rwandan migrant is facing serious jail time in France after they admitted to starting a fire which gutted the country’s historical 15th-century Nantes cathedral.

Reuters reports that the unnamed man was volunteering at the Cathedral as a warden when he started the fire.

A lawyer for the migrant, Quentin Chabert told a news conference last Sunday that “with these confessions there is a sense of relief: it is someone who is scared, who is somehow overwhelmed.”

Mr Chabert did not elaborate however, when questioned by journalists as to why his client had started the fire which left the interior of the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul last July 18th which ruined and also destroyed the grand organ and stained glass windows of the edifice.
