Wake up call! Widespread anger as new beds and mattresses get moved into D Hotel just hours after protest

A large crowd gathered in considerable rain on Saturday afternoon at the Socks Byrne statue outside Scotch Hall, Drogheda beside the D Hotel.

The patriots who gathered were protesting against 500 migrants being planted in the hotel – effectively ending hotel spaces in central Drogheda, excluding a smaller hotel towards the north end of the town.

That in mind, a large number of Gardai were in attendance of the protest – some of whom told The Liberal that the protest was peaceful, people were in good form and it went off peacefully.

It appeared however that the owners of the D Hotel didn’t get the message as The Liberal understands a considerable number of new beds and mattresses were moved into the hotel just hours after the protest finished on Saturday afternoon.

Concerned locals say that this development has angered them even further saying that tourism in the town will effectively come to an end because there will be nowhere for anyone to stay.

Meanwhile, across the Boyne river is a huge building where a very large number of Ukrainians are also due to be placed.

The Liberal has once again contacted the D Hotel for comment on this issue.
