A New Jersey police officer has been hailed a hero after he bravely rescued a civilian who was lying on rail tracks ahead of an oncoming train.
The man of the moment Officer Victor Ortiz has received great praise for his courage and his determination which saved the suicidal man from certain death.
According to local media reports officer Ortiz apparently saw the man get off the train at Secaucus Junction and kneel down on the tracks as the train was about half-a-mile away, repeating “I just want to die”.
The brave policeman then grabbed the man and was able to pull him off the tracks to safety just before the high speed train entered the station.
Meanwhile NJ Transit officials said they could not be more proud of Ortiz, before adding that they hope the incident reminds people what police officers do every day.
