Weather alert: Met Eireann issue severe weather warning ahead of strong wind and rain on Bank Holiday Monday

It’s going to be an absolute washout bank holiday Monday with the national weather forecaster predicting close to Winter weather for the entire country. Rain, wind and even cold temperatures are forecast.

The Bank Holiday Monday BBQ is officially cancelled, as Met Eireann has issued an urgent weather warning for ‘damaging’ winds and heavy rain.

The Status Yellow warning covers counties Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, and Wexford.

The warning will kick in at 3am tonight and remain in place until 10pm on Monday evening.

According to the national forecaster, wind gusts of up to 100km/h will lash the country at times, particularly across coastal areas and high ground. Heavy rain might also lead to localized flooding.

The outlook is for a week of very unsettled weather, with frequent showers mixed with periods of sunshine.
