Met Eireann have issued a severe weather warning tonight after heavy, dense fog has smothered the entire country – and the UK too.

The fog is so bad, Heathrow airport has cancelled practically all of its in and outbound flights tonight.

Driving conditions are described as “very dangerous” with visibility of only up to 10 feet in front of cars in some areas. The weather report shows side roads to be worst affected with both coastal and inland areas unusually experiencing the same level of fog.

Meteorologist Dr Tom Mullany said: “We’re currently experiencing some of the worst fog to hit Ireland in almost 6 years. Driving conditions are extremely dangerous as a result and people are asked to stay extra vigilant until the weather passes in the coming days”.
