The Romans have taken to the street to protest against Europe-wide draconian lockdowns. Restaurant owners have seen their business decimated in the last twelve months and there is no roadmap or exit strategy in sight to end these lockdowns.
This week, Rome’s restaurant owners clashed with police when they arrived outside Parliament. One officer was injured reports CTVnews.
Hundreds of protesters removed their masks, chanting “WORK!” and “FREEDOM!.” Flares were also thrown at the police who led a charge against the protestors.
Italy operated a zoned approach to restrictions. Restaurants and cafes in regions with lower incidence of cases and less critically impacted hospital ICUs are called `’yellow-zones“. Restaurants and cafes can open in these zones and allow inside dining and drinking. However, the Italian authorities have removed yellow zone status across the country due to rising virus infection numbers.
