Woman who survived alleged abduction attempt in Dublin city says that she ‘knew her attacker’

It has been revealed that a woman who survived an alleged abduction attempt in central Dublin was familiar with her attacker, reports The Mirror.

According to sources speaking to The Irish Mirror, Gardaí probing the incident that occurred on Monday in the north inner city have identified a connection between the woman and the suspected assailant.

Both individuals are believed to be Romanian. “This was certainly not random,” a source said. “We suspect they are known to each other,” reports The Mirror.

The event took place at approximately 2.40pm on Mountjoy Square, where several bystanders reportedly intervened after witnessing the man allegedly attempt to force the woman into an Opel people carrier.

The suspect is said to have fled the scene, but Gardaí are actively pursuing a clear line of inquiry, reports The Mirror.

Sources added that Gardaí have yet to determine the motive behind the suspected abduction attempt. In a statement, the force confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.

It said: “Gardaí received a report of the alleged attempted abduction of an adult female at Mountjoy Square in Dublin 1 at approximately 2:40pm on Monday 29th September 2025. No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing,” reports The Mirror.
