Women get a better night’s sleep with dogs than with partners – according to new study

A dog will always be known as loyal creatures and man’s best friend, but now it seems women find our canine friends better to sleep with than their significant other.

According to a recent study published by researchers at Canisius College in Buffalo, women have a better night’s sleep when they sleep next to dogs rather than humans.

The unusual findings show that dogs cause less disruption to a woman’s sleep than another human or a cat.

According to The New York Post, the survey which involved 962 women also  found that dogs provided more security and comfort whilst sleeping.

In the survey women were asked who they shared a bed with.

The participants responded accordingly, 55% said the shared a bed with at least one dog, 31% said they slept with at least one cat, and 57% said they slept next to a human partner.

The survey which involved a series of follow up questions on sleeping preferences, comfort and disruption uncovered that humans and cats wre equally disruptive, whilst dogs were less disruptive to a woman’s sleep.

It is thought that stricter routines for dog owners provides an explanation for the overall result.
