An elderly woman attended Tallaght Hospital on Tuesday evening and was initially seen by a female consultant wearing a hijab.
The patient asked the doctor was she a Muslim to which the doctor reported “yes”. The patient got somewhat agitated and said that she “did not want a Muslim involved in her care.”
The daughter of the patient posted what happened in a Facebook post written on ‘Anti Islam Ireland’, where she praised her mother for having “the sense to know enough to now allow a Muslim to treat her.”
When another Muslim doctor “with a very big black beard” tried to tend to the woman, the patient exclaimed “I’m from Ireland, is there no way of getting an Irish doctor who isn’t a Muslim to treat me”.
