A High Court Judge has ordered Gardai to arrests teacher in Westmeath for allegedly contempt of  court by sitting in his classroom this morning instead of attending court.

He reportedly didn’t attend court and is now summoned to attend court to answer questions as to why he would not address the student as “they”.

It’s understood he could face jail if he doesn’t attend court to answer the questions.

Earlier this week, a secondary school has won a High Court injunction preventing a teacher who objects to a student being addressed by the pronoun they from coming to campus or teaching at the school while away from his post.

RTE reports that the injunction was obtained ex-parte by the trustees of Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath against Enoch Burke, who was told by the court that he was currently on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the ongoing disciplinary proceedings.

He was not sanctioned and the school did not find anything against him.

RTE reports that his suspension stems from alleged conduct after he publicly objected to the school’s request that any of its students wishing to advance be called by the pronoun “they” and a different name.
