Kellie Harrington has won gold in the lightweight boxing final in Tokyo after an incredible performance that has given her an incredible unanimous decision victory over reigning world champion Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil.
Harrington was in a war in the first round at the Kokugikan Arena in which she was rocked off-balance by one of her opponent’s heavy punches, who was up on three of the five judges’ scorecards after the first three minutes.
But she weathered the storm and put in a perfect boxing performance in round 2 and 3 that sealed victory for Gold.
The Portland Row 31-yr-old is over the moon and will be bringing her ahold medal back to Dublin this week.
