One lucky person scooped the jackpot in Saturday’s National Lottery draw, winning €19.06 million.
The winning numbers drawn were: 2, 9, 16, 30, 37, 40 and bonus number 23.
According to RTE, it was decided that tonight’s draw would be made on a “must-win” basis, which meant that it would have to be won by someone. This followed lots of conversations about the fact that it seemed to be nearly impossible to win the big prize, as it hadn’t been won since June.
The National Lottery also took other steps to take account of the fact that the jackpot hadn’t been won. They announced that if no-one won the big prize this weekend, then the prize would have been paid out to the winners who had scored a few numbers, so that several people would win a prize. 149 people matched 5 numbers, and their total winnings amounted to €5.5 million.
It has been decided that there will be a guaranteed win no more than five draws after the cap of €19.06 has been reached.
