Teacher Enoch Burke has been sacked as a teacher at Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath.

A statement released by one of his brothers said Mr Burke visited the school today and was briefed at 3.30pm in the presence of Chairman of the Board John Rogers and Principal Frank Milling that Mr Burke had been dismissed from his teaching role in the school.

Burke said the decision was made after what he described as an “purported” board meeting at the Mullingar Park Hotel, from which Rogers was absent.

A disciplinary hearing took place yesterday with Mr Burke in relation to alleged misconduct at the school.

On Wednesday, the High Court refused to grant Mr Burke an injunction to prevent the hearing.

Judge Conor Dignam said the petitioner’s intention to continue to violate court orders against him meant the scales of justice tipped against approving the court order.

Mr Burke had alleged that last September’s order not to be present for school work was unconstitutional.

The whole affair started when a child wanted to transition and be referred to as “they” and “them”. Mr Burke took exception with this and an alleged row ensued with the then principal of the school which ended up in a lengthy legal debacle and media circus.
