The United States shot down an unidentified object flying in its airspace off the Alaskan coast just days after shooting down a Chinese “spy” balloon.
The object, shot down on the orders of President Joe Biden, was flying at an altitude of about 40,000 feet and was the size of a small car, the White House said.
It posed a threat to the safety of civil aviation, said John Kirby, spokesman for the White House National Security Council.
We did not know where the object came from. “We don’t know who owns this object,” said Mr Kirby.
US officials said: “Out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of the Pentagon, President Biden ordered the military to down the object over water”, reports Sky.
An F-22 aircraft shot down the object with a Sidewinder missile and there was no indication that the object had flown.
