A third person was killed after a shooting at a Kurdish cultural centre and hair salon in central Paris, the city prosecutor said.
“There are three dead, one person in intensive care and two people with serious injuries, and the suspect, who was arrested, has also been injured, notably to the face,” Laure Beccuau told journalists at the scene.
Police said the suspected shooter was known to authorities for two previous assassination attempts.
The shots, just before noon, sowed panic on rue d’Enghien in the 10th arrondissement of the capital, a lively district of shops, restaurants and bars which is home to a large Kurdish population.
The Kurdish community centre called Centre Ahmet Kaya is used by an association which works for the integration of the Kurdish population in the Paris region.
The shooter was described by police sources as a “Caucasian” with French nationality and was known for two previous assassination attempts in 2016 and 2021.
