?BREAKING: Two gardai have been charged with falsely imprisoning young boy in Dublin

Last year two Gardaí were charged with falsely imprisoning a young boy in a Dublin guard house.

Stephen Conran, 39, and Damian Kirwan, 55, appeared in Dublin District Court today, reports RTE.

Detective Superintendent Columbanus O’Malley told Judge Cormac Dunne the pair were arrested and charged at Lucan Garda Station earlier this month.

Both face forced detention charges but Garda Kirwan has another charge of assault causing harm to the young man on April 20, 2021.

They deny the allegations and await their court date.

Detective Superintendent O’Malley said they “didn’t respond” to the allegation.

According to the national broadcaster, the DPP ordered a summary injunction, meaning the case must remain in the district court rather than the district court, which has broader judgmental powers.

After requesting a preview of the evidence to determine the trial venue, Judge Dunne accepted jurisdiction to try the case in circuit court.

His legal team, Dara Robinson and Damien Coffey, said an appointment was needed for a hearing that would last a day.

The judge issued an order for the defence to release evidence, including video footage.

He adjourned the case until December 5 to set a date for the contested hearing.

The accused did not appeal to the court and were placed in preventive detention.
