Police say that the search has ended for an American convict and the officer who allegedly helped him escape after finding the couple following a police chase.
Vicky White, an Alabama prison guard with an impeccable record, is suspected of helping long-time criminal Casey White (no relation) escape a week ago on her last day of work before retirement.
Police believe the couple had developed a romantic relationship and their disappearance from the Lauderdale County Jail captivated the nation.
It’s understood that the officer was rushed to hospital following a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound with authorities confirming today that she died early Tuesday morning Irish time from a gunshot wound believed to be self inflicted.
It’s understood that the convict has been taken into custody and will be sent back to Alabama in the coming days.
