202 Syrian refugees have been given shelter in Ireland thanks to the Irish Refugee Protection Programme (IRPP), since last month – 22 Syrian families arrived in the last couple of days.

The Minister for Justice and Equality Charlie Flanagan has said that the families are welcome and can now focus on their new future here in Ireland.

Many people aren’t happy about the Syrians arrival, especially given 10,000 Irish people homeless here on our streets and hotel rooms.

It also must be noted that President Donald Trump is determined to pull American troops out of Syria, with many declaring the war to be over so why are people still seen as refugees from Syria.
A total of 105 Syrians arrived here and will be given shelter. Another 97 refugees arrived from Lebanon last week bringing the total number of people resettled this month to 202.

The families are staying at the Emergency Reception and Orientation Centre in Ballaghaderreen in Co Roscommon while they await permanent housing in communities across Ireland.

The refugees that came to Ireland last week are staying in centres in Mosney, Co Meath and Clonea Strand, Co Waterford.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it fair that Irish people remain homeless while refugees are sheltered? Tell us in the Facebook post comments?
