The 2018 FIFA World Cup is well underway and in recent days soccer fanatics have been treated to a spectacular tournament that has been widely praised so far.

However as many know in the footballing world as one World Cup begins there is always talk of where a future tournament could be held with many destinations suggested.

Well now it seems that Ireland and the UK could be very well thrown into the mix if the powers that be at soccer’s world governing body were to listen to their former president.

Although talks of hosting the 2030 World Cup is some way down the line, it seems that former FIFA chief Sepp Blatter has pledged his support to a UK/Irish bid in the future.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Blatter said that he felt that England or Ireland deserve to host the sports show piece event.

The former chief who stepped down from his in the organisation, told the broadcaster that England is long overdue to host the tournament given that 1966 was the last time the tournament was held there.

Blatter who also stated given that the tournament would be expanded to a 48 team event by then, that Ireland should be considered as joint host as he believes more than one county would be needed to host the tournament.

The ex-FIFA boss told the broadcaster that he believes a joint bid by either England or another which included England, Scotland, Wales and the entire island of Ireland would an ideal candidate as he feels Ireland would be a candidate by then.
