A 21-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of Robert Wilkin, whose body was fished from the sea in the foothills of Sliave Liagh in south Donegal on July 3, reports RTE.

Nikita Barnes of Bundoran Westend Accommodations, Westend, Maghercar, Bundoran, Co Donegal, appeared this morning at a special hearing of the Letterkenny District Court.

Detective Sergeant Matty Murphy produced evidence of arrest, charges, and caution.

He said he arrested Ms Barnes yesterday at Ballyshannon Garda station at 9:53 p.m. and charged her with the crime at 10:21 p.m.

He told the court that when she was charged, she replied, “I didn’t do it,” reports RTE.

Ms. Burns is charged with the murder of Mr. Wilkin – also known as Robin Wilkin – on June 25, 2023 at an undisclosed location in the state.

On Monday, September 4, Superintendent Karen Duffy applied to Letterkenny District Court for the defendant to be remanded in custody.

Ms Burns was placed in custody by Judge Ciaran Liddy to appear at Letterkenny District Court via video link that day, reports RTE.

Rory O’Brien, Ms Barnes’ lawyer, applied for free legal aid, which was granted.

He also said that his client would receive all necessary treatment, including appropriate psychiatric treatment and any medication required while in custody, and Judge Liddy had ordered that this should be the case.
