A woman in the US who attended an appointment with her chiropractor has been left paralysed after she suffered a reaction to a procedure.

According to the Irish Mirror, the blood supply to Caitlin Jensen’s brain was cut off when she had a reaction to a neck adjustment.  Her mum Darlene Jensen said that her daughter has not been able to walk, talk, eat or breathe properly on her own.

28-year-old Caitlin had originally made the appointment to help her loosen up at her desk but the neck adjustment resulted in vertebral artery dissection and she suffered a stroke.  She was rushed to hospital and put on a ventilator to help her breathe. She had been thinking of cancelling the chiropractor appointment but decided to go ahead with it.

When she suffered the injury, Ms. Jensen had just completed her degree in biology and was applying for jobs.  She has now made some improvements and was taken off the ventilator. Her mum said that she is working through the alphabet with her daughter, and that Caitlin gives a signal when she has reached the right letter.  She is also able to nod and give the thumbs up.

A GoFundMe appeal has been set up to help pay for her future medical bills and her mum has started a campaign to make people aware of the risks of neck adjustments like the one that caused her daughter to suffer this injury.
