31-year-old man arrested in connection with video posted online showing people appearing to mock the death of the late Michaela McAreavey

A man has been arrested in Northern Ireland in connection with an online video that appeared to show a number mocking the tragic death of Michaela McAreavey.

Ms. McAreavey was killed while on honeymoon in Mauritius in January 2011. She was married for just ten days and died when she disturbed a burglary taking place in her room.

The video was widely condemned throughout Northern Ireland by politicians and the public alike.  The arrest of the 31-year-old forms part of an investigation into the video.  After it was posted, Ms. McAreavey’s husband John said “Michaela was a vessel of love, courage and dignity.  Hate can hurt, but never win.”
