Met Eireann has confirmed that today was the hottest August day ever in Ireland, as temperatures reached almost 32C.
According to the national forecaster, the thermometer reached 31.7C in Co. Carlow.
The previous record, set in 1975, was 31.5C.
Met Eireann says that the high temperatures will continue throughout the weekend.
