32nd Dáil sits for the first time today, though new Taoiseach is unlikely to be elected today

The new Dáil will convene for the very first time today. Old TDs will feel right at home, while new ones will get a taste of a life pension today, as they brush off some imaginary dirt off their seats before getting comfy.

No new Taoiseach is likely to be elected today, however, as the two front runners have not been able to muster enough support.

A vote to elect a new Ceann Comhairle will take place first, with a vote on the election of Taoiseach soon after, before the Dáil shuts its doors after a hard day’s work at 6:30pm.
