After battling cancer, a mother of two who was anxious to reduce weight died after swallowing “weight loss drops” that she put under her tongue. The crimson drops that 34-year-old Sarah Thompson purchased in the summer are thought by her relatives to have contributed to her untimely death, reports The Mirror.

Within a month of utilising the drops, Sarah’s sister told ITV News that she felt like she could “take on the world” after going from 15 and a half stone to 11. But her 16-year-old daughter discovered her dead in her bed in September.

Police responded to a complaint of her “sudden death” at her house in Connah’s Quay, North Wales, however it is unclear whether the substance was the reason of her passing.

Her family is still awaiting test results to determine the formal cause of death, but the coroner has been notified, reports The Mirror.

Sarah endured terrible side effects, but she kept taking the drops. She was on the phone with her younger sister Gabriella only days before she passed away, and she was so sick that she was unable to consume any food or water.

Sarah believed she could “ride out” the negative effects even though she was advised to visit the hospital. Sadly, she passed only a few days after they talked about their worries over the drops, according to the Mirror.

Gabriella, in tears, shared with ITV News the transformation her sister underwent after losing weight: “She had a lot more confidence, she felt she could take on the world, she was ready to go out and achieve everything that’s held her back for so many years,” reports The Mirror.

She looked for a “fat burning serum” online after her family disclosed that she was ineligible for NHS weight loss injections. After testing the serum and experiencing negative side effects including bodily shaking and a pounding heart, Gabriella stopped using it, but her sister persisted.

“When I took them my whole body was shaking and heart was going.. and she said ‘Gabby just ride through it, because in the end you’ll be thankful for it,'” Gabriella recounted to ITV News. She also expressed concern about the unknown contents of such products and their impact on users and their families, lamenting, “I’m never going to see my sister again because of this. Her children are going to grow-up without their mum and it’s not nice. No family should feel the pain we feel,” reports The Mirror.
